Understanding Teen Anxiety in Girls
Many parents wonder if what they are seeing is normal stress or something more like anxiety. Teen girls can experience both, but they do not always look the same.
Normal stress is usually temporary and tied to a specific situation, such as exams, friendships, or performance expectations. Teen anxiety tends to feel more constant and can show up even when there is no clear trigger.
Common Signs of Anxiety in Teen Girls
Teen anxiety can show up as overthinking, irritability, stomachaches, headaches, sleep issues, or avoidance of school and social situations. Some teens may also appear “fine” externally while struggling internally.
Why Teen Girls Often Hide Anxiety
Many teenage girls do not openly express anxiety. Instead, it may show up as perfectionism, people pleasing, or emotional shutdown. They may fear being judged or misunderstood.
When to Seek Support
If anxiety begins to interfere with school, friendships, or daily functioning, it may be time to consider additional support. Early intervention can help build coping skills that last into adulthood.
